Helston Library unveiled its £181,000 refit last week when it reopened to the public.

At 9.30am last Monday the first customers were able to take a look around the revamped library, which now includes a new children's library and interview room.

It is now also home to the One Stop Shop Cornwall Council services and in the New Year will see JobCentre Plus relocating there as well, into its own dedicated area.

The building in the Trengrouse Way car park has been renamed Helston Library and Information Service to recognise its new role in the town.

The library and information service will initially be open from 9.30am to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10am until 1pm on Saturdays.

When Jobcentre Plus moves in early next year, residents will also be able to use self-service kiosks from 9am to 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, allowing them to borrow and return items and use the public access computers.

Julie Zessimedes, head of library and information services, said: "This is a really exciting project and has been an opportunity for Cornwall Council to work with partners to deliver a great library service and customer hub for the town.

"The refurbishment of the library will mean that the building will be a thriving community hub for library customers and new visitors alike."
