Treacherous icy conditions are causing travel chaos this morning, prompting many schools to shut or open late.

Rosevear Hill between Helston and Mawgan is closed, forcing motorists to use back roads.

The Helston to Falmouth road is also very slippery, with traffic at a standstill in places.

Helston Community College plans to open at 11am, although it is understood there are staff in the north site hall at Helston to care for any students who have made it in on foot.

Mullion Comprehensive School has now confirmed that due to the ongoing icy conditions it will not be opening at all today, after previously planning to just delay opening until 11am.

Most school buses are not running to either school at this time.

Primary schools known to be shut today include Mullion Primary, Penryn Primary and Kea School.
