McDonald's has revealed it is changing the way it “cooks and prepares” some of its classic menu items ahead of its 50th anniversary later this year.

The beloved fan favourites Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese and its classic Cheeseburger variations including double and triple, will all be getting a taste change.

The fast-food chain has made small modifications to its beef burgers, enhancing all the elements “customers enjoy most”.

This includes placing onions on top of each patty while they are cooking on the grill for extra flavour and changing the sear of the beef patties.

The movement follows the success of the changes in both Australia and the US markets, meaning the restaurant's new burger tweaks will shortly be implemented across the UK and Ireland to ensure “even juicier burgers, served hotter.”

The new processes also incorporate greater quality and flavour into the beef.

The full list of changes to McDonald's burgers include:

  • Beef patties – A tighter sear on the grill, resulting in hotter and juicier beef patties for maximum flavour.
  • Grilled onions – New processes involve adding white onions to the grill on top of the patties as they cook, for added colour and a better charred flavour.
  • Lettuce – Fresh lettuce straight from the fridge for that extra snap, crunch, and clean taste.
  • Meltier cheese – Hotter beef patties guarantee that the cheese oozes over the sides, creating an even smoother texture.
  • New buns – A new buttery, brioche-style recipe for a soft and pillowy textured bun – freshly toasted to order for the perfect golden brown outer crunch.

When will new and improved McDonald’s burgers launch in the UK?

McDonald’s reimagined classic beef burgers will be available in restaurants from mid-March.

Gareth Pearson, chief restaurant officer at McDonald’s UK&I said: “As we celebrate McDonald’s 50th anniversary in the UK, we are excited to introduce our enhanced classic beef burgers.
