A binman has shared one thing that can mean your recycling does not get collected.
What can you not put in a recycling bin?
The No. 1 Binman, Ashley, shares lots of tips and tricks on his TikTok account to help people with their waste.
He recently shared a video telling people about a common mistake many make that means their recycling gets refused.
Many people will throw plastic containers into the recycling without clearing them out, and if they still have food in them, binmen will not collect the rubbish.
The caption said: "How many times have I told you.
"If the plastic containers still have food in them, the binmen won’t take your recycling bin."
While many people might not know about this rule, others already knew to do this, with one person in the TikTok comments saying: "People are just lazy, hardly takes any time to wash/clean things out."
Another person said: "I have communal recycle bins and I wash all my things before putting them in the bin but others don’t."
If the binmen refuse to empty your bin, they will leave a tag or sticker on it explaining why it has not been emptied.
Other things that you cannot recycle
Ashley has also shared other videos talking about things you cannot put in your recycling bin.
Things like polystyrene that is often used to protect fragile items during deliveries is also something that cannot be put in the recycling.
If a binman sees any polystyrene in your recycling bin, they will refuse to take it.
He has also posted a video about pizza boxes, as if they are too greasy or have leftovers in them, they cannot be recycled.
Many plastic films and packaging also cannot be recycled, so it is always worth checking the labels on the containers.
