Asda has revealed plans for a new network of convenience stores.

The supermarket giant is aiming to deliver its own-brand products and value prices to more local communities through a partnership model with independent retailer One-O-One.

The first three Asda Convenience stores will launch in Glasgow in collaboration with the Scottish retailer, marking the start of a wider UK rollout if the trial proves successful.

Asda aims to scale the model quickly if the trial is successful, reports What’s The Jam?

Each store will carry approximately 3,500 lines, including chilled and fresh groceries, food-to-go options and Asda’s own-label products.

The launch is supported by a £1 million investment and marks Asda’s move into supplying independently operated convenience stores.

The new format differs from the company’s existing Asda Express stores in that the shops will not be directly owned by Asda.

Instead, they will be operated by independent retailers under the Asda Convenience brand, giving them access to Asda’s pricing, product range and supply network.

One-O-One, which operates a network of convenience stores across Scotland’s Central Belt, is the first retailer to partner with Asda on the scheme.

Joseph Sutton, Asda Express, Fuel and Wholesale director, said: "Launching Asda Convenience is an important step in extending our reach and making Asda’s great value accessible to more customers in the way they want to shop today.

"By partnering with experienced independent retailers, we can combine our product range, pricing and supply chain strengths with their local expertise to create a truly compelling offer.

"This is just the beginning, and we see a real opportunity to scale this approach while building a broader wholesale business."

Paul Stirling, group retail director at One-O-One, said: "We’re incredibly proud to be the chosen convenience retail partner to launch the new Asda Convenience format and to play a key role in bringing this exciting proposition to customers across Scotland.

"With a long-established presence in communities throughout the Central Belt, we’ve built trusted local stores that understand the individual needs of the neighbourhoods they serve.

"Combining that local knowledge with Asda’s exceptional value, market-leading own-brand range and strong customer proposition creates a compelling convenience offer that gives shoppers greater choice than ever before."
