TWO people have tested positive for Covid 19 at Richard Lander School this week with a small number of pupils being told the self isolate.

In an email to parents on Tuesday, head teacher Steve Mulcachy, said that despite the cases the school remains open. It wasn't made clear whether it was a pupil or member of staff that had had the positive test.

He said the school is continuing to monitor the situation and is working closely with Public Health England and reassured parents that for most people the symptoms are mild. He said the children who had been in contact with the people who tested positive have received a letter saying they must stay at home for 14 days.

"We have been made aware that two members of our school community have tested positive for Covid-19," the email said.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individuals who have tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."
