The pristine white walls of Jubilee Pool in Penzance have been marred by vandals just over a week before it was due to reopen for the summer.

Police in Penzance have appealed for information after graffiti appeared on the recently refurbished walls of the grade II listed art deco pool.

Officers, who are searching for those responsible for what they are terming an act of criminal damage, said "it is unknown when this damage/graffiti has been caused."

The pool, which is due to reopen for the summer on Saturday, May 27, has just undergone a period of refurbishment, including works to improve disabled access.

It is currently run by the not-for-profit group Friends of Jubilee Pool, which was set up by the Penzance community to rebuild the pool after it suffered heavy damage during the winter storms of 2014.

Martin Nixon, chairman of the Friends of Jubilee Pool, said: "It's disappointing to me that a so called 'artist' can't see that the pool's white walls are a key part of a much bigger work of art that is the Jubilee Pool. "We'll be removing the graffiti in due course but the cost of doing so will take valuable funds away from other maintenance works."
