The Keith Penrose & Sons sponsored monthly medal attracted a very strong entry on Sunday at Budock Vean Golf Club, writes Keith Rashleigh.

It produced a ‘blanket’ finish with no fewer than three players returning equal net 65s with plenty of drama thrown in over the closing holes.

Third was Rob Gibson who did a ‘Devon Loch,’ finish (for those of you who remember that famous Grand National) by carding a double bogey 7, Par 4, double bogey 5 finish over the last three holes.

Runner up David Tippett could also consider himself unlucky as he finished double bogey 7, birdie 3, double bogey 5.

Kevin Bate, however, produced a brilliant finish of par 5, birdie 3, and par 3 to snatch the crystal glass.

David Gudzij returned the best gross of the day 77.

The back nine twos were shared between Charlie Averiss,  Tony Grace, Roger Mildren, all at the eleventh, while Rod Butler claimed his share at the eighteenth.

On Saturday Vean take on Cape Cornwall at home in the Daily Mail Team Classic.

The selected team is: Paul Upperton, Geoff Mills, John Rule, Martin Rule, and team captain Tony Ramsden. The first singles match tees off at 12pm.

This Sunday is the final round of the Roger Mildren sponsored Winter League.
