A breakfast of humble pie then for Helston Athletic's detractors after Saturday's 6-1 demolition of St Dennis at Boscawen Park, which proved, if proof were needed, that Sid Taylor's side are far from a spent force in division one west.

There's no denying it's been a tough few weeks for the Blues manager and his team, but with several key players returning to fitness and a cameo appeareance by prodigal son Mark Goldsworthy, this was more like the Helston of old.

Goldsworthy's much talked about move to Truro City, where he joined former Helston striker Liam Eddy, left many wondering where the Blues' goals were going to come from. On Saturday they provided a choice of five answers, Goldsworthy punctuating their response by coming off the bench to score the sixth.

Stidwells Ashley, Ben and Dan all waded in with one apiece. Charlie Young - himself the subject of mischievous rumours about a move away from Kellaway Parc - pitched in with a goal of his own, and Jamie Thirkle pinched Helston's fifth before Goldsworthy popped up with a timely reminder for Truro City boss Steve Massey.

Despite the furore surrounding his signing, the 22 year-old is yet to make an appearance for the White Tigers, leading some Truro supporters to openly question manager Massey's seemingly scattergun recruitment policy, but on Saturday his loss was Helston's gain.

Not that the result was ever in doubt. Victory leaves the Blues seventh in division one west, 13 points off league leaders Sticker, with games in hand on all the teams above them.

Other results in division one west were as follows:

Dobwalls 2 - 3 Wadebridge Town
Foxhole Stars 0 - 2 Truro City
Mousehole 6 - 1 Bude Town
Penryn Athletic 1 - 1 Perranporth
St Dennis 1 - 6 Helston Athletic

Sticker 2 - 3 Callington Town
