Helston Athletic 6 Vospers Oak Villa

Helston manager Sid Taylor has been cagey recently when asked whether his side are back to their barnstorming best, but after this comprehensive victory over Vospers Oak Villa he must know they're not far off.

The Blues out-muscled and out-manoeuvred their Devon opponents, racing into a two goal lead in the first ten minutes, but it's fair to say neither team's back four turned up until the game was half an hour old.

Helston opened their account in the fifth minute courtesy of a howler from Oak Villa centre back Pete Foster, whose back pass was wayward, leaving keeper Ian Evans no chance as it trickled over the line.

On eight minutes Helston went two up when Charlie Young fired in following a corner - again, the goal owed as much to sloppy defending as anything else.

But Helston were themselves guilty of some poor play at the back when on 15 minutes Andy Harris pounced on a punched clearance from Blues keeper Martin Webster and chipped in from 15 yards out.

Oak Villa were level for all of three minutes.

A Blues corner taken by Jamie Thomson caught the wind, and drifted in over the head of Evans to make it 3-2.

And Mark Goldsworthy's fine strike on 28 minutes after catching Foster in possession restored Helston's two goal lead and took the wind out of Oak Villa's sails.

Young scored his second and Helston's fifth just before the break after Richard Eland misjudged a clearing header and allowed the ball to drop to the Blues midfielder, who smashed a volley low and hard past Evans.

The game petered out after the restart, but Helston wrapped up another impressive win with their sixth of the game with twenty minutes left on the clock.

Danny Ford, on as a second half sub, linked up well with Goldsworthy down the right, raced to the byline and fizzed in a low cross which the Blues striker hit high into the Oak Villa net.
