Saturday saw a pleasant day for the Greenkeepers competition at Falmouth Golf Club with all 18 tees booked (and more) with teams of four showed a high measure of respect for the superb work done by the greenkeeping staff over the year.

The format was a Texas Scramble with a 9.30am shotgun start. Certainly the excellent scores returned reflected the immaculate velvet like greens as putts dropped in from everywhere.

In third place were the team of Gerry Storey, Steve Jones, Andy "AJ" Anderson and Karl Hack with an impressive gross 62 net 55-2 including carding birdies on the last 7 holes.

Runners up with with a very impressive gross 61 net  53-9 were Simon Hirst. Brian Shovlin.

Terry Dickinson and Janice Binions. They also combined superbly to card 7 birdies on the back nine, surely the winning score, but no, as the quartet of Andy Morris, Roger Fairburn, Brenda Arch, and Peter Hopkins trumped it by one stroke with a scintillating gross 60 net 52-9 including 6 birdies on each nine to deservedly take the top prize.

With the whole field suddenly converging on the clubhouse en mass full credit must go to chef John Crocker and his team for serving up a delicious brunch -  also to bar Steward Donna Craig and her assistants.

Club Captain Lucien Trathen gave out the prizes and reminded everyone, because of the shortage of daylight hours and the large numbers that are supporting the competitions, that slow play must be avoided in fairness to all taking part. This Saturday is the second round of the popular Winter league.
