Robbie Edgson won the prestigious Rider Cup at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday. The event is a demanding 36 hole medal, and demanding it certainly was with a gusting all day wind that varied from considerable to brutal at times out on the spectacular Pennance headland. Indeed almost a quarter of the field failed to return a score in the afternoon such were the conditions.

Robbie carded a triple bogey “snowman” (8) on the 501 yard par 5 third which was playing into the elements (and ironically he did the same in the afternoon) but apart from that he stayed calm and played steadily throughout to record net scores of 78 & 72 for his 150 to deservedly take the cup by one stroke from runner up Ian Renshaw who again played well to return scores of 73 net in the morning followed by a 78 net in the afternoon. Third was young Callum Davis with fine net scores of 77 & 75 for his 152.

The best gross of 164 was recorded by Dave Holland who used all his survival skills to card 83 gross & 81 gross to take the prize by three shots from Connor Davidson (84 & 83).
The best morning round was by Steve Thomas with a net 74 and the best afternoon round was by Keith Popperwell with a net 71.

The longest drive winner was Simon Ewart down the eighteenth and nearest the pin was Richard Marsh at the 184 yard eighth hole where he impressively knocked it to 16 inches.
This Saturday is the Frank Harris qualifier and on Wednesday 21st is the Peacock Cup Monthly Medal sponsored by Kelsall Steele Investment Services.
