BOB Pine held off his challengers on Saturday at Falmouth Golf Club to claim the Frank Sharpe Cup title, writes Keith Rashleigh.

A total of 99 club members entered the tournament, taking full advantage of the weather around the spectacular Pennance Headland.

Pine showed the way by winning with a very solid three over par gross 75 for a net 64 including birdies at the 11th and 13th holes.

Runner up was Gerry Storey with another fine round of gross 76, net 65, with birdies at the 11th 14th and 16th holes. This was good enough to pip Harry Perry into third place on countback.

Perry parred seven of the front nine holes, but a double bogey at the par four “plateau” 15th hole proved crucial. This was the most difficult hole on the day averaging 1.49 over par.

Young Ben Browning carded the best gross. Ben double bogeyed the par threes at the second and fifth holes but battled on to card birdies at the third, 11th and 18th holes to eventually return a fine one over par 73 gross and 67 net.
