A COLD wintry showery morning greeted players on Sunday at Falmouth Bowling Club for the continuation of the Men's Triples League.

League leaders Chacewater/ Falmouth Frostbites, skipped by Tony Nancholas with Colin Smith at No 2 and Rob Brown leading, were expected to continue their run of successes against Carnon's Cavaliers skipped by Doug Thomas with George Cramp No 2 and Ron Wright leading, but the form book was upset as the Cavaliers, after seven ends, had established an 8-2 lead. With the Frostbites strangely off form the Cavaliers put them to the sword as they increased their lead to 16-4.

Everyone was wondering if the Frostbites could once again get out of jail, but the Cavaliers continued their dominance and eventually won 20-6 to record the shock result of the day and reduce the Frostbites lead to three points.

Second in the league, Falmouth Waisters, skipped by Tom Reid, Paul Jordan at No 2 and John Maunder leading, got away to an excellent start and after nine ends had established a 13-3 lead against Constantine's Odd Bod 2s skipped by Bob Mynett, Patrick Willcocks at No 2 and Anton Hawley leading. This was an excellent game with both sides involved in very tight heads and the Odd Bod 2s were very competitive with some fine bowling. With all six players playing well, the Waisters just had the edge in all departments and ran out winners 26-11, which was slightly flattering to the Waisters leaving the Odd Bod 2's deflated, but they will win more games playing to this standard and cannot be taken lightly.

The Waisters remain in second place and can take heart from their performance as next week they fact the Frostbites in a top of the table clash.

Falmouth Packets, skipped by Paul Bobin, Ray McCormack at No 2 and John Bishop leading, were far too strong for Mawnan's Brass Monkies, skipped by R Thompson, with R Page at No 2 and T Wilshaw leading. By the tenth end the Packets led 17-1, and they continued their dominance to the end to record a 31-4 victory. The Brass Monkies only scored on three ends of the 18 played.

Penryn's Hasbeens, skipped by Godfrey Curnow, Mike Churcher at No 2 and Brian Gerry leading, knew they were in for a tough game against the in-form Helston's Dancers, skipped by Russell Dawes, D Summers at No 2 and Keith Sobey leading, and so it proved to be. All level at 4-4 after six ends the Dancers found a run of good form to score 2-1-1-1 to take a 9-4 lead. After 15 ends, the Dancers led 11-9 and it was all to play for over the last three ends.

Going into the last end, the Dancers led 14-9 and looked safe, but the Hasbeens gave them a fright as they picked up four shots on the last end to only lose 13-14. The Dancers move up to fourth place and are proving a handful to all the teams they meet.

Redruth's/Falmouth's Nomads, skipped by Rodney Richards, Francis Gilbert at No 2 and Trevor John leading, fell 6-1 behind Mawnan/Truro's Rustlers, skipped by John Bullen, Malcolm Dearnley at No 2 and Bill Bingham leading, but, by the tenth end, the Nomads had levelled the game 9-9.

The Rustlers then forged ahead with a 2-3-1 to lead 16-11 after 16 ends. However, the Nomads were not finished and, in the last two ends, captured a four and a two to snatch the game 17-16.

Stithians Ranchers, skipped by Harry Barnes, John Knowles at No 2 and Phil Matthews leading, moved away to a good start to lead 7-1 after five ends. After ten ends, they had moved out to a 15-7 lead over Constantine's Odd Bod 1's, skipped by Harry Garbutt, Richard Finch at No 2 and John Drayson leading. The Odd Bods were to remain on seven for the next six ends as the Ranchers moved out to a 23-7 lead and eventually won the game 26-9. The Odd Bod 1's only scored on four occasions as the Ranchers remain a threat to the rest of the league, lying in third place at the moment.
