CAMBORNE put up stout resistance following a slow start before finally succumbing to a Bridgwater & Albion side on Saturday.

The 39-25 score saw the hosts climb above Town in the South West One table as a result.

The Cherry and Whites battled back manfully after falling behind 19-0 inside the first quarter to trail only 29-15 with ten minutes remaining.

But their spirited challenge was finally sunk with two late home tries.

Town now begin the second half of the season occupying fourth spot, but with all the teams above them due to visit their Recreation Ground fortress beginning with halfway leaders Cleve this weekend.

For their visit on Saturday to Somerset, Camborne welcomed back Navy centre Aaron Hunt and started with Cameron Bone on the flank.

The Cherry and Whites fight back on the day began with David Mankee latching on to a loose ball in the home final third to go over for an unconverted try. Though the hosts then bagged their bonus point try before the break, flanker James Goldsworthy was mauled over for fly-half Mankee to add the extras, making the halftime score 26-12.

Early in the second period another unstoppable forward drive saw visiting hooker Sam Bartle over but Bridgwater countered with a penalty for 29-17.

Town were looking for a try bonus point of their own to get back into the match and this eventually arrived when full-back Grant Thirlby came up on the left to touch down.

When Mankee landed a penalty to cut the deficit to only four points well inside the final quarter, Town hoped to complete a remarkable comeback.

However, the hosts’ late brace wrapped things up.
