FALMOUTH Golf club enjoyed terrific support from the members as they made it through to the final of the prestigious President's Trophy on Sunday at Perranporth, writes Keith Rashleigh.
They overcame a spirited Looe team by 7-2 in a game which, despite the scoreline, was in the balance for most of the afternoon before Falmouth turned vital matches around to deservedly take their place in the final.
Scratch player Mark Carter, making his debut for Falmouth, was the star performer of the day.
He was last of the nine players, three from each handicap categories of one, two and three, to tee off but remarkably was the first to finish after a faultless performance over the demanding links for a 7 & 6 win.
Another major turning point came when Ross Taylor fought back from three down with five to play to defeat Brian Hodge on the final hole.
Ray Longstaff also put in a fine effort to reverse a two hole deficit to beat Hugh Evans on the 16th.
Steve Thomas held off the challenge of John Nicholls to claim a 1up success and a close finish was had by Andy McKnight as he halved the last hole to tie his game with Mike Morris.
Despite being one up with two to play, Tristan Gurd fell to a defeat against Kieren Falkner, but in the end it proved to be just a consolation point for Looe.
Micky Doust lays up on the fifth green.
