FOR the first time since 2011, Falmouth smashed home six goals in a competitive match as they routed Bovey Tracey on Saturday.

The Ambers left the South West Peninsula League Premier’s bottom club for dead with a Glen Squires hat-trick plus goals from Nick Hurst, Rob Wearne and Kayne Trevaskis giving them three points.

In the process, Bovey were consigned to the knowledge they can no longer finish higher than last in the league with five games remaining.

Town’s manager Wayne Hughes was delighted to see his side record such a big victory.

Hughes said: “It takes a bit of pressure off us and I thought we played really well.

“Even though they are the bottom side in the league, Bovey Tracey are not as bad as you’d think and it was a bumpy pitch, so it wasn’t as easy a game as the score might suggest.

“What pleased me the most was that we kept a clean sheet as well and we played the match as if we were against one of the top sides.”

From the first attack of the game Falmouth took the lead as full-back Hurst was supplied with the ball from the right by Trevaskis and the teenager side footed a shot home.

Wearne doubled the lead inside in the opening ten minutes when he nodded home from a corner before Squires opened his account as he beat the offside trap and sent a low shot past James Sharman at the midway point of the half.

The hosts kept their chins up though and made life difficult for Town with the away side not adding to their advantage again until the 70th minute when Squires got his second.

Lee Pascoe was sent off four minutes later for Bovey when the host’s skipper received a straight red card for lunging into a tackle with both feet.

This left the home team powerless to Town’s threat and Trevakis made it 5-0 when he stabbed the ball home late on before Squires completed his hat-trick in the first minute of injury time.
