CAMBORNE put up stout resistance in North Devon before finally going down to a late Bideford try to return home without even the consolation of a bonus point.

Again hard hit by injuries and unavailability on Saturday, Town were well served upfront by some of their young players and behind the scrum by veteran Luke Wills who was drafted in at centre.

The Cherry and Whites were in touch throughout the first period and opened with a David Mankee penalty before wing Alex Ducker ran nearly 80m to touch down a spectacular try.

With fly-half Mankee converting Ducker’s score, the visitors trailed 11-10 at the interval.

Prop Andrius Zachorovas and lock Olly Reynolds got through a huge amount of work and an interception from young full-back Gareth Mankee brought another try which was also converted put Camborne in front briefly.

Bideford took the score to 27-17 before a determined Town, who would not lie down. conjured a superb try with Mankee and replacement Liam Chapple combining to send skipper Steve Kenward over.

Another successful conversion cut the arrears to only three points.

In the final quarter, a home penalty steadied their ship and near the end a fifth try wrapped up the victory which sees Bideford move above Camborne in the South West One table.
