After an incredible season as South West Superleague Winners, County Under-19 Champions, AOC National College Finals Bronze medallists, Under-19 Schools Championships SW bronze medal winners, South West College Tournament winners, and with two girls in the AOC National Colleges squad, the Truro College Academy Netball Squad are still not yet done.
They recently lost 56-41 to the Wales Under-21 squad—an amazing performance against an older, national team—and they are soon to begin playing in the national play-offs against the winners of the other three superleagues.
Team captain Hayley Bunt said of the team’s success: “It’s amazing, we’ve grown and come so far. We’ve always tried to be the best and have all worked so hard. It’s been a privilege for us to go through the pressure of expectation, playing and developing with a great group of girls, and there have been so many highs.”
Maddie Heywood, who plays Wing Defence, added: “The highlight overall has definitely been the bronze at the National Championships. We beat Exeter, who were rated as the best team at the start, and then we also beat Hartpury, who are one of our big rivals, to get the bronze.”
Carla Aldington, who plays Centre or Wing Attack and Louise Kitto, who plays Goal Attack, are also in the AOC National Colleges squad, recently playing for them against Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Louise, who is doing an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence at the College, endorsed the Truro College Netball Academy, saying: “It’s been a really good experience, and the best thing I’ve ever done.”
