HELSTON retained bragging rights over neighbours Porthleven as they won their Mining Division Evening League by ten runs on Tuesday.

After winning the toss, home skipper Mark Jenkin opted to bat at Beacon Parc in the Group B clash but progress proved to be slow going as wickets fell at regular intervals.

The biggest partnership of the innings came at the end as Luke Clark and Sam Rule added 34 for the seventh wicket as they helped their side reach 105-6.

Clark hit 20 runs and Rule ten, but the top scorer was Jenkin who made 29 off 35 balls before being bowled by Ed Butcher.

Port's reply got off to the worst possible start when Peter Sincock was caught off the first ball of the innings.

Just like their rivals, Port could not compile any meaningful partnerships as they struggled to score off the economical bowling.

Butcher led the way with the bat for the visitors with his 29 runs featuring five fours, but with Jamie Strachan, 18, being the only other man to get into double figures, the target was away side fell ten short of their target.

Lewis Jeffrey topped the bowling charts with his four overs costing just 14 runs and picking up two wickets and a maiden, something which is precious in Twenty20 games.

In Group C, a boundary heavy knock of 91 not out from Scott Martin helped Perranarworthal to a 52 run victory at Mt Ambrose.

The opening batsman hit 12 fours and three sixes in his unbeaten effort which got his side up to 160-6 from their 20 overs.

Mt Ambrose only lost four wickets in their reply, but some tidy bowling restricted them to just 108 runs with Philip Hingston finishing with figures of two for 11.
