IT was an evening of celebration for Penryn Athletic Football Club at their end of season presentation dinner.

Guests in attendance included the mayor of Penryn, Mary May, and Bruce Taylor with his wife Margaret, the vice-chairman of the Carlsberg South Western League and president of the Whirlwind Sports Falmouth Helston Football League.

Although the club did not reach the premier division of the South West Peninsula league, they did' however, enjoy some success and they reflected in the awards during the evening.

The highlight of the evening was the special award given to Alan Edney for his long and appreciated service to Penryn Athletic Football Club. He was presented with a crystal plaque in recognition of officiating as linesman at 845 matches from 1982 to 2007 as well as overseeing the club in 10 Jolly's Cornwall Combination League Championships and eight runners up in the 25 years he had been team secretary and press officer.

Alan's hard work was also recognised by the Cornwall County Association in the form of a framed citation.

The Jolly's Cornwall Combination League manager Andy Parry announced he was standing down after six years in the job. In his time he had led the reserve team to league success in the 2003-2004 season, had become runners-up in the Supplementary Cup the following year and just last season had won the League Cup and the George Evely Cup.

His services were recognised through winning the clubman of the year award and a second award for his six seasons as manager.

The most coveted player's award was the Stuart Lawry Cup that went to Chris Symons for winning the first team sportsman of the year. Chris was delighted with the award which shows the fantastic season he has had.

It was definitely an evening to remember for everyone that is associated with Penryn Athletic and Andy Parry and Alan Edney in particular. The club is now looking forward to achieving more success next season.
