Former Porthleven manager John Clarkson has taken over a Spanish third division club after offering them a lucrative deal.

The 60 year-old Scotsman, who guided the Fishermen to Senior Cup success in 2004, proposed to give Deportivo Tudelano £150,000, which will be refunded if he manages them to promotion.

According to a story revealed by the Daily Mail, the owner of a care home company wants to invest £50,000 in the first season and £100,000 in the second, as well as finding new sponsors in return for being the manager of the team.

Clarkson, who also managed Launceston and Liskeard Athletic, as well as Devon sides Tiverton Town and Crediton, has also been involved with a host of Spanish clubs.

Tudelano president Jesus Miranda said: "The fans might think this is just a hobby of extravagance for him, but he is a fully fledged coach with all his badges.

"He is paying money to do a sports project - he is not taking over the club. It is a very unusual and exciting proposal."

In a story in The Sun, Clarkson insists that he is not giving the club money, but aims to bring in £150,000 investment and will be working for no salary.

Tudelano currently lie in mid-table having won seven of their 22 league games in Segunda B. Clarkson watched them lose 2-0 at home to Coruxo FC in his first game in charge on Sunday.
