Falmouth Golf Club staged their spring open on a glorious Friday in a three-ball stableford with two scores to count format, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The triumvirate of Darren Horton, Rob Eccleston and Ben Browning turned in a five-star performance to win with an exceptional 86 points.

They each combined well but were helped by the brilliance of Ben Browning who carded ‘eagles’ at the ninth and 12th holes.

Runners-up with 79 points were Andy J Anderson, Angus MacArthur and Roger Weekes, third were Pete Brierley, Dave Ambrose and Ian Churcher also with 79 points.

Barnie Halloren, Phil Carlyon and David Halstead all won the best visitor prize with 78 points. Club professional Nick Rogers provided an excellent prize table.

Saturday, again in perfect weather conditions, saw the prestigious Falmouth Hotel bowl and the Lombard qualifier played for.

Ian Renshaw despite three putting from seven feet on the first went on to become a popular winner, with 43 stableford points including birdies at the sixth, 12th, 14th and 17th holes.

Runner-up was junior organiser Mick Fox who played well for 40 points. Third was Darren Horton with 37 points including birdies at the first, sixth and 11th holes. Darren also won the 11 to 20 handicap section.

John Rule won the 0 to 10 handicap section with 36 points and Richard Wilkins won the 21 to 28 handicap section with 35 points.
