Helston 294-5 (20pts) beat Werrington 128 (5pts) by 166 runs

Helston made it three wins out of three in County Division 1 on Saturday as they beat Werrington 2 by 166 runs, taking the full 20 points available in the process.

The win ensures Helston leap to second in the table with a game in hand over leaders Beacon.

The match was the only one in the division to go the full distance after rain led to abandonments elsewhere.

Werrington won the toss and put the hosts in to bat, but found themselves in big trouble as opening pair Karl Leathley and Chris Martin flourished.

The duo recorded a marvellous 161-run partnership with Leathley scoring 75 off 108 with 10 fours, while Martin scored 86 off 101 with 12 fours and 1 six.

The pair were caught out within a few balls of each other, but Eben Koekemoer (52) and Ben Rule (27) picked up where their teammates left off, with Koekemoer hitting an impressive 52 off 36 balls.

Werrington’s response began badly with Nicolas Adams being caught first ball by Steve Jenkin, with Ian Searle (3) and Ben Jenkin (7) following to leave the visitors on 16-3.

Mark Hodgson (9) and Daniel Barnard (4) fell victim to Koekemoer who recorded 4-32.

Adam Jenkin (24) and Danny Warne (27) restored some credibility, but were unable to prevent Helston from cruising to victory.
