Redruth 252-8 (20pts) beat Falmouth 224 (9pts) by 28 runs

Falmouth’s slow start to their batting innings cost them as they recorded a 28-run defeat at Redruth in their Cornwall Premier match on Saturday.

The result sees them drop a place to seventh after Grampound Road leapfrogged them with a win over Wadebridge.

Redruth won the toss and chose to bat with opener Sam Wyatt scoring 22 runs before he was caught by Scott Kellow.

Christian Purchase (9) and Jack Hale (15) were next to go for the hosts, with Wyatt’s fellow opener Toby Whiteford assisting as they reached 105-3.

Whiteford vacated next but he departed as his side’s top scorer with 69 runs off 82 balls.

Peter Howells (33), Thomas Burford (15) and Nathan Alexander (22) each contributed double-figure hauls as the hosts managed 199-7.

Harry Bolland (36 no) added the crucial final runs to take his side past the 200-mark, eventually ending on 252-8 off their 50 overs.

Falmouth’s reply began badly as they lost each of opening trio Richard Kellow (2), Jamie Stephens (8) and Grant Stone (8) for single figures.

However Scott Kellow and Stefan Churcher then stepped up and hit a combined 141 runs to put their side firmly back in the game.

Kellow scored 73 off 76 balls, while Churcher managed 69 off 93 balls.

Callam Turner added 23, but the lower order contributed just 11 more runs as the visitors fell 28 runs short.
