St Gluvias 233 (19pts) beat Mount Hawke & Porthtowan 221-8 (10pts) by 12 runs

ST GLUVIAS continued their up-down start to the season with a narrow 12-run victory at Mount Hawke & Porthtowan on Saturday.

The win sees the Kernick club rise two to seventh in the Division 2 West table.

Mount Hawke & Porthtowan won the toss and put the visitors in to bat, with openers Kyle Winnan and Jonathan Udy scoring 129 runs between them to leave the hosts in real trouble.

Winnan exited with 65 runs off 76 balls after being caught by Robert Askew, but Udy continued towards the century before departing on 104 off 121 balls, scoring ten fours and five sixes in the process.

By that time Andrew Julian (4), Richard Bannister (0) and Matthew Henry (0) all fell for just four combined runs, but Udy and Winnan’s haul meant they were still at a solid 206-7.

The middle and lower order fell fairly quickly with Sam O’Nyons top-scoring with 16, with Tom Stevens claiming 4-30 as the visitors ended on 233 all out.

Mount Hawke needed to start their innings well, and that they did despite captain Ryan Chitty’s dismissal for nine.

Opener Tom Williams scored 55 off 73 balls before his dismissal put the hosts on 110-2.

Askey followed this with 60 before being caught by Winnan, with Ryan Thomas’ 35 edging his side up to 193-5, however the lower order fell away as the hosts reached 221 before their overs were up.
