Rosudgeon 271-7 (19pts) beat Roche 241(8pts) by 30 runs

Rosudgeon maintained their grip on third place in the County 1 table following a 30-run victory at home to Roche on Saturday.

Aaron Paul led the way with 64 runs for the hosts, while Matthew Jacka and Mark Waters’ combined seven-wicket haul ensured they held on to third spot.

Rosudgeon won the toss and chose to bat first, with Matthew Ellis (31), James Stephens (34) and Billy Edwards (5) helping the hosts to 109-3.

Ellis was lbw off Stewart May’s delivery while the latter pair were both bowled by David Neville, who took 2-28.

Paul’s 64 helped take their total to a much more handsome 172 before he was caught by Jack Mingo.

Waters (38) and James Williamson (46 no) contributed with solid scores, with Ben Ellis (11) and Jacka (2) edging the hosts past 270 at the end of their innings.

Mingo (17) and Adam Trudgeon (42) began Roche’s reply in good form, and they reached 54 before Mingo vacated the crease.

He was the first of Matthew Jacka’s (4-41) four victims, with the bowler also taking Charles Murrie (12) and Oliver Sleeman (0).

Waters (3-27) looked to emulate his team-mate, taking Neil Trudgeon (0), Adam Trudgeon (42) and James Hunkin (19).

Harry Trethewey put an end to the bowlers’ fun, scoring 72 not out off 60 balls, but Rosudgeon still strolled to victory.
