The National Trust, with RFU England, will hold a five-a-side touch rugby tournament on Marazion beach on Saturday, July 14.

Anyone aged nine years and over is invited in their teams of ten to enter the tournament, which is supported by Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management Ltd, and begins at 10.30am.

There will also be family beach games, rock pooling, volleyball and Archery GB ‘Arrows’ for anyone to drop by and try.

Alice Barker, Outdoor Activities Development Officer for the National Trust in West Cornwall, said: "Rugby holds itself firmly in Cornish culture, bringing communities together for some good-humoured competition.

"RFU England make the tournament a great event for families and friends spending a day playing and watching the rugby and watching the tide ebb and rise around St Michael’s Mount."

RFU England will referee the rugby tournament and trophies sponsored by Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management Ltd, will be awarded to the teams winning the tournament, showing the fairest play and displaying the best team kit.

"The event’s not just for rugby players," said Alice. "We welcome new teams, but spectators can also just come along to enjoy the sea air, build some sandcastles, try some running games and enjoy the feel of sand between their toes."

John Waldie, Atkins Ferrie director, said: "I am delighted to be sponsoring yet another National Trust event, particularly as it is a rugby event and we have a highly skilled rugby player in our staff who will be attending on the day.

"Please stop by our stall to say hello and enter our free prize draw to win Afternoon Tea for two people, including Bollinger Champagne at the Penventon Hotel."

With it costing an average of £3000 per mile of coast path, any funds raised from the tournament will help to fund the National Trust’s work as a charity, caring for the local landscape.
