Helston Athletic 0, Plymouth Argyle 5

Helston Athletic lost their opening pre-season friendly to a youthful Plymouth Argyle side at a packed Kellaway Park on Saturday.

More than 500 people watched as Argyle dominated for large spells, but were frustrated by their hosts until the floodgates opened later on.

Luke Jephcott gave the Pilgrims the lead on eight minutes before adding a second after the break, with Cameron Sangster, Klaidi Lolos and Dan Rooney also scoring.

Phil Cattran had the first half chance for the home side when he found himself in space between the Argyle centre-backs, but couldn't get the ball out from under his feet to make more of the opportunity.

Jephcott got the ball rolling early on when he raced onto a through ball and slotted past Helston's Barrie Wyatt and into the corner.

From then on it was mostly one-way traffic, with the boot of Sangster causing problems as he twice threatened to tee up teammates Lolos and Andrew Burn.

When the visitors did break through they struggled to find a way past Wyatt, who pulled off a superb reaction save to deny Lolos on 22 minutes.

Wyatt then thwarted the impressive Ryan Law a few minutes later after the left-back combined well with Jephcott, while Rio Garside also spurned a good chance.

Kai Cornish came on at half-time and had Helston's best chance of the game when he raced through on goal to face visiting keeper Michael Cooper, but the young professional did fantastically to block the strike.

Jephcott added his second and his side’s third on 63 minutes when he tapped in Rooney’s pass following a swift break, with Rooney also setting up Lolos for the fourth ten minutes later.

Wyatt was replaced by Kieran Daughtery towards the end, who conceded the fifth when Rooney fired home from the middle of the box.
