Falmouth Ladies and their invited guests, played in the Invitation Day last Tuesday, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The weather stayed fair and an enjoyable time was had by all.

A raffle and putting competition raised over £200 for the Lady Captain’s Charity, The Cove, which is a pastoral cancer care centre at Treliske.

The trio of Kath Kelly, Lyn Innes and Alison Gessey from West Cornwall were the day’s winners.

Saturday saw the first round of the prestigious Rider Cup 36 hole medal where 70 men teed it up in fantastic weather.

Larry Lynch leads the way with a superb net 65 including a birdie at the eighth.

Peter Brierley lies just three shots behind with a fine net 68 after carding birdies at the 11th 12th and 15th holes but a “snowman” eight at the par four 14th could prove costly.

Third was Robert Edgson with a tidy score of net 68 including birdies at the eighth and 16th holes.

Lee Harris who is showing great promise also came a cropper at the 14th with a nine on the card followed by an eight at the 17th. However he played well enough to take fourth place with a net 68.

This Saturday sees the event come to its conclusion.
