It was another busy weekend at Falmouth Golf Club in pleasant weather conditions, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Saturday saw 72 members tee it up for the Bearne Cup where Malcolm “Bert” Coulls proved a popular winner with his fine net 67.

“Bert” was closely followed by four other who returned net 68s but he closed them out with a good par four at the 18th to take the cup.

Runner up was Andy McKnight who included a birdie at the 11th. Third was in-form Nigel Molin with another 68 including a birdie at the 15th.

John Gresson finished fourth with his net 68 but picked up the best gross prize with a superb level par 72 including 16 pars, one bogey and one birdie. Steve Thomas also carded a net 68.

Sunday saw another good entry for the Tarbuck mixed betterball, named in honour of Jimmy Tarbuck O.B.E, who is an Honorary Member of the club.

The winners were George and Rachel Curnow. They combined superbly for their 45 stableford points.

It was a close run thing however as runners-up Paul Collins and Angela Cortis and third-placed Dicky and Lynne Dickinson all played well to return good total of 44 points apiece.

Club Professional Nick Rogers stages his professional Day this Saturday, August 25.

The competition is open to all members and visitors and no doubt top prizes will be up for the taking. Ring the professional shop on 01326 311262 to reserve your tee time.
