Falmouth Town topping the SWPL Premier table and Tavistock’s five-goal win at home to St Austell were among the big moments on the latest weekend of the local football season.

But who enjoyed a first win of the season in style, which new Trelawny League team is banging in the goals, and who didn’t even turn up?

Packet Sport offers you five things that you may have missed from the weekend's football action.

Nick bags five in West Cornwall win

West Cornwall have endured a difficult start to their Combination League season with four straight defeats, conceding 23 goals and scoring just once.

But all that changed at the weekend thanks to striker Nick Pulgliese, who scored all five of his side’s goals as the Pool-based club won 5-2 against St Agnes.

Pulgliese top-scored for West Cornwall with eight goals last season as the team finished 16th in their first season since promotion from the Trelawny League.

Trelawny new-boys go goal crazy

Tregony FC are one of the latest batch of new clubs to enter in at the bottom of the Trelawny League this season, and they’re making quite the impression.

They have racked up 23 goals in their first three games, beating Madron 8-2 on Saturday after winning 9-5 against Goonhavern Reserves in midweek and 6-3 against Falmouth United the previous weekend.

The 14 goals in that 9-5 win is also the highest-scoring game in all eight of west Cornwall-based divisions (SWPL Premier to Trelawny Division 4) so far this season, so maybe a team to keep an eye on if you like your goals.

Storm feeling under the weather

Whereas Trelawny Division 3 club Storm are following a similar trend – but at the wrong end of the pitch.

The Redruth-based club suffered relegation from Division 2 last season, but the drop down hasn’t helped them with the side conceding 43 goals in their first four games.

Their latest defeat was a 13-0 reverse at St Erme on Saturday. Here’s hoping the boys from Redruth can turn their fortunes around soon.

Barnstorming finish at Penlee Park

Goals were like London buses in Penzance’s clash with Porthleven on Friday night.

The match ended 3-2 to the Fishermen but it was still 0-0 as the game entered the final quarter, with three quick-fire goals from Matt Drummond (2) and George Molcher stunning the hosts.

Mawgan Kewn and Josh Storey replied for the Magpies to set up a nailbiting final ten minutes for both sides, but Port held out for their second win from two games so far in 2018/19.

Ludgvan’s start gets even worse

It has been a hectic summer for last season’s Division 1 West runners-up Ludgvan.

First they lost a number of players plus their manager, then they lost the manager’s replacement after he realised the enormity of the task at the club, and then they lost their first game of the season 6-0 at St Blazey last week.

Then to make matters worse they could not even raise a side for their lengthy trip to Holsworthy on Saturday.

It has been promised as a one-off occurrence, and let’s hope that is the case for the sake of a club that provided so much excitement last season.
