Helston Athletic's under-18s side will make history tonight as the first Cornish club to compete in the FA Youth Cup for more than 60 years.

The young Blues travel to Weston-super-Mare in the Preliminary Round of the national youth competition, with kick-off at the Woodspring Stadium at 7.30pm.

The side, managed by Stu Giles and Martyn Daughtery, are set to become the first Cornish side to play in the tournament since St Austell did so in the 1957/58 season.

Truro City were the first club from the Duchy to enter, appearing from 1953 to 1957, while Penzance also competed in the 1956/57 season.

Helston would need to get through 11 rounds to win the tournament, but four wins could see them take on the likes of English League One club Plymouth Argyle, who knocked out Premier League champions Manchester City in last year's edition.

The Blues warmed up for the Somerset clash by beating Falmouth Athletico 11-0 on Sunday, with goals from Ali Williams (3), Alfie Flack (2), Cameron Wheat (2), Harrison Jewell, Jake Flamank, Jacob Brand and Jackson Penhallurick.

The reigning FA Youth Cup champions are Chelsea who beat Arsenal 7-1 on aggregate in last season's final.
