Ludgvan 1, Porthleven 8

Matt Drummond scored five as Porthleven put strugglers Ludgvan to the sword with a comprehensive 8-1 thrashing on Saturday.

The hosts have been beset by numerous problems since the end of last season, with the departure of many players and two different managers.

They began the game with just ten men as no goalkeeper was initially available, and Rob Carey put the Fishermen ahead early on with a shot on the turn.

Drummond then scored three in four minutes, meeting Josh Sims’ cross in the 12th minute, heading in from close range in the 13th and converting a pass from George Molcher in the 15th as Port raced into a 4-0 lead after quarter of an hour.

The Fishermen missed chances to have an even more handsome lead with Dan Greet’s effort clearing the bar.

However Greet made amends when he fired a powerful header past the goalkeeper – who had arrived in the 20th minute – on 35 minutes to give Port a five-goal lead at the break.

Scott Stevens scored a consolation for Ludgvan, but Drummond turned provider for Paul Reynolds to score goal number six.

Drummond followed in Hayden Dark’s shot which struck the post to make it 7-1, before the striker pounced on Molcher’s through ball to score his fifth and his side’s eighth.
