Falmouth thirds completed an excellent season by winning the LWC Drinks Division 6 County Final at Redruth on Saturday.

They defeated St Neot seconds by 45 runs in a keenly contested game played in the right spirit. Falmouth lost a couple of early wickets before the experience of Greg Stephens (29) and Keith Meneer added 72 for the third wicket.

Meneer went on to make 48 before Mark Burley took charge hitting eight boundaries in his 58 as Falmouth reached 215-8. St Neot were going well at 115-2 when League Chairman Andrew Kent was run out for 25. With Greg Stephens taking three for 19 and Mark Averiss and Perran Burley taking two each St Neot were bowled out for 170, with ten balls remaining.

Elsewhere an enjoyable Division 4 Final was contested at Constantine where Veryan added the county title to their Clive Rosevear Cup win last month, beating Launceston seconds by seven wickets. Constantine Club President George Dengler aged 92 and with 80 years' service to cricket, made the presentations.

The plug was pulled on the Division 2 Final at Helston after Ludgvan warned the League that due to player unavailability they would be fielding a weakened team. The League decided a complete mismatch was not in anyone’s best interests and with St Austell seconds unable to postpone they were awarded the title by default.

Redruth won the Cornwall Women’s League on Sunday after thrashing Grampound Road by 142 runs. They only lost one of their ten games and beat Penzance Women to the title by 12 points.

It was a proud day on Sunday for Perranuthnoe umpire Tim Boston, who officiated the Cricketer National Village Cup Final at Lord’s. The former Rosudgeon bowler followed in the footsteps of the late Gerald Penberthy and Roy Stout as Cornish umpires who have stood in the final. The North Yorkshire side Folkton & Flixton beat Hampshire’s Liphook & Ripsley by 72 runs. Also on Sunday Roffey lost their Vitality National Club T20 semi-final at the County Ground at Derby. The Sussex side, who beat Penzance in the previous round, lost to Yorkshire’s Hanging Heaton (Batley) by seven wickets after only making 99. Hanging Heaton went on to beat Norfolk’s Swardeston in the final.
