Penzance 2, Wendron Utd 3

WENDRON twice came from behind to win this Walter C Parson League Cup tie and set up a home draw against Dobwalls in the next round on Saturday, October 20.

Played at Penlee Park on Friday night, the visitors took confidence from their first win of the season last week and were good value for their victory.

The impressive Luke Johnston gave the hosts a fourth minute lead but Jack Greenwood’s men hit back after 15 minutes when Ben Ringrose set up Jack Stocker to score from the edge of the area following a Chris Mulroy cross.

Penzance then enjoyed a good spell before the break but failed to carve out any clear cut chances.

However, they were soon in front after the restart when Johnston raced clear down the right and latched on to a ball over the top, rifling his shot past Dan Stedman in the Wendron goal.

Wendron hit back midway through the half when Rory Jarvis capitalised on a defensive mix-up between Fraser Cadman and keeper Steve Parker-Billinge to slot the ball into an empty net and score his first goal for the club.

Jarvis might have added his second when another mistake by Cadman gave him the chance to shoot at goal, but his fierce effort was tipped on to the crossbar by Parker-Billinge.

The hosts hit the post from 30 yards out when the goal was unguarded by Stedman, before Wendron’s winner arrived with 15 minutes to go when Mulroy’s corner was superbly headed home by Cameron Wheat.
