Falmouth Town manager Andrew Westgarth blasted his team's performance after they surrendered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at home to Launceston on Saturday.

Town led at half-time through Tim Nixon's free-kick, but goals in the final 20 minutes from Jordan Walton and Tom Savigar handed Launceston the victory.

The result also ended Town's 100% record at Bickland Park this season, after seven wins from their previous seven home matches in all competitions.

The last in that run of victories was Wednesday's superb 4-2 victory over St Austell, which the Town boss feels now 'counts for nothing' after Saturday's loss.

“We got what we deserved, and that was nothing," Westgarth said. "It was such a poor performance from us.

"Even when we were 1-0 up it didn’t feel right, we were just so lethargic today and it makes Wednesday count for nothing now, so it’s bitterly disappointing with that and losing our home record, a poor afternoon for us.

“We had so many chances, even before we scored I think we’ve had ten attempts on goal and not one on target until Nixy [midfielder Tim Nixon] stepped up and scored the free-kick, from our point of view we had enough chances to bury them.

“We’ll look back on this and it’ll hurt.”

Despite his displeasure at the result and overall performance, Westgarth reserved praise for goalscorer Nixon who he felt had a good game.

“I thought he was a shining light first half," He said. "His ball retention is fantastic, he likes to play little one-twos and he was making things happen.

"A couple of his deliveries were quite good, obviously Broggy [midfielder David Broglino] wasn’t here so he stepped up in taking set-pieces and I thought his free-kick was brilliant.

"It was probably the only glimmer of light or bit of quality that we had today really.”

Westgarth's men will now look to bounce back when they travel to Godolphin Atlantic tonight (kick-off 7.30pm).

Town will look to draw on the sort of performance that saw them come from behind to defeat the G in extra-time of their semi-final in last season's Walter C Parson Cup-winning campaign.

“The games are coming thick and fast now and there’s no point dwelling on it," Westgarth said. "I know it hurts now and no doubt we’ll probably dissect the hell out of it in the clubhouse, but Godolphin’s going to be a tough game, tough place to go and I’m expecting a response from the boys.”

l Falmouth's next home match is on Saturday when Sticker visit Bickland Park (kick-off 3pm).
