Falmouth RFC continued their fine start to their 2018/19 Western Counties West campaign on Saturday when they won 16-10 at home to Bideford.

The win was their third from four matches after beating Truro and Wadebridge before coming unstuck at Wellington last weekend.

Head Coach, Graham Whitmore, said: “I thought the start was pretty good and I thought there was opportunities where we should have been more clinical and as I said to the boys before the game the longer that Bideford were in the game their confidence would rise and the challenge would increase which was the case.

“It got a little bit nervous at times and towards the end they had a strong spell that we fortunately came out of and saw the game through but one thing we have shown in the past and showed towards the end of last season was that character and resilience that hopefully will see us through these tough times.”

The Eagles will look to make it four wins from five this weekend when they travel to Somerset to face Chard.

The Essex Close club have made a slow start to the new season, winning just one of their four games, but narrowly beat Falmouth 24-21 in this fixture last season.

“It will be another big test for us,” Whitmore said. “Chard won pretty well all of their matches last year at home, they’re very strong at home but very poor on the road.

“We’ve been up there before and we know what they’ll bring to the game. We’ll have to put in a really good performance to come back with something.”
