Liskeard Athletic 1, Porthleven 0

Porthleven suffered defeat for the first time in the SWPL Division 1 West this season on Saturday, losing narrowly to title rivals Liskeard at Lux Park.

James Lorenz scored the only goal of the game as Athletic picked up their seventh win from seven league games.

The Fishermen’s afternoon began poorly as goalkeeper Richard Kellow missed out due to sickness and defender Jake Lugg picked up an injury before kick-off.

Port then lost Matt Fox with a hamstring injury on 22 minutes, with sole substitute Max Everard coming on to replace him.

The visitors thought they had a chance to lead from the spot midway through the first half when Jack Price was brought down, but the referee waved away the appeals.

The hosts rubbed salt into the wounds as they scored the only goal of the game from the resulting goal kick, which found Ben Waters who played in Lorenz to fire past stand-in ‘keeper Josh Sims.

Matt Drummond came closest for Port when his shot on the turn struck the underside of the crossbar before half-time.

Porthleven: J Sims, P Reynolds, F Pengelly, M Fox (M Everard 22), D Greet, H Dark, G Molcher, R Carey, J Price, M Drummond, S Kellow.

Port are back in league action on Saturday when the host Plymstock United (kick-off 3pm).
