I’d like to start this piece with a bit of a rallying call: Go and watch Falmouth Town.

If you are at all interested in the success of Cornish sport or of non-league football in general, then head down to Bickland Park. You will not be disappointed.

If that isn’t enough to persuade you then these cold, hard numbers can tell their own story.

3-0, 3-1, 5-1, 3-2, 3-1, 4-2, 5-0, 5-0, 12-1, 6-0, 6-0.

They are all of the games so far this season in which Andrew Westgarth’s men have won and scored three or more goals.

And it’s only mid-October.

It’s not all about goals of course, but goals win games, and this Town side are doing a lot of scoring and a lot of winning at the moment.

Town have won 13 of their 17 games in all competitions, scoring 66 goals in the process - an average of 3.88 goals per game.

Last season Town could have been guilty of over reliance on striker Jordan Annear, who scored nearly 50 goals in league and cup last season.

But this year the goals have already been nicely spread around the side. Annear leads the way again with 15 but fellow strikers Matt Buchan and Jack Bowyer have 12 and 10 respectively. And the defenders have scored a not inconsiderable seven goals between them.

And it’s only mid-October.

There were six different scorers in their most recent 6-0 thrashing of Western League Premier side Bridport in their FA Vase first round proper clash on Saturday, with the goals coming from two strikers (one of which was a sub), two wingers, a left back and a centre-back.

Goals have come from every outfield position already this season, with all but two of the current core 15-man squad having scored, and one of those is goalkeeper Ryan Barnes.

This is a team, and one hell of a team at that.
