Cullompton 1, Falmouth 0

Jordan Harris’ first-half strike was enough to condemn Falmouth Town to defeat at Cullompton Rangers in their SWPL Premier encounter at Speeds Meadow on Saturday.

It was the first time that Town have failed to find the back of the net this season, with their last blank coming in the 3-0 Senior Cup quarter-final defeat at St Austell in March.

The hosts used the wind to their advantage in the first half, with Isaac Reed’s 12-yard dipping effort flying narrowly over the bar inside 15 minutes.

Harris then gave Cully the lead in the 17th minute when his swerving shot deceived Town goalkeeper Ryan Barnes, who could only watch as the ball dropped into the bottom corner.

The visitors looked to get back in the game and nearly levelled eight minutes later when Jack Bowyer beat a defender and fired a shot that was destined for the corner but for a good save from Adam Seedhouse-Evans in the Cullompton goal.

Jordan Annear was heavily marked throughout but did find a way through after beating one defender and arrowing his shot out of Seedhouse-Evans’ reach, but the effort curled inches wide.

The hosts should have doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Jamie Down hit the underside of the bar from the edge of the box.

Town continued to look for the equaliser after the break but couldn’t find a way past Seedhouse-Evans, who denied Luke Johnson in the best of Town’s chances.

Falmouth: R Barnes, J Richards (T Barwell 82), T Annear, M Duff (L Johnson 55), J Cooper, J Ward, L Brabyn, D Broglino, J Bowyer, J Annear, T Nixon. Subs (unused): C Davis, A Westgarth, J Miller.

  • The defeat came just three days after Town came out on the right side of a 1-0 result, beating Bodmin at Priory Park on Wednesday.

Jack Bowyer scored the winner three minutes before half-time thanks to a huge stroke of luck, when the Bodmin goalkeeper’s clearance struck the onrushing Bowyer in the back and looped into the goal.
