Falmouth Town are preparing their sat navs for another trip to Dorset this weekend in the next round of the FA Vase.

After succeeding in their 280-mile round trip to Bridport in the first round earlier this month, Town will travel an extra 35 miles each way for this weekend’s second round tie at Hamworthy United.

Manager Andrew Westgarth said: “You always ask for an away trip but you don’t expect them to be so close, but it’s just the way it goes and we’re looking forward to it.”

Westgarth was due to take in the Poole side’s Wessex Premier League match at home to Shaftesbury last night, but insists that he won’t be reading too much into the opposition otherwise.

“I’m not a massive fan of looking at other teams and formations and things like that,” he said. “We have got training on the 3G pitch but I think we’re just going to work on a few bits for us really.”

Town go into Saturday’s cup clash off the back of some mixed results, with Wednesday’s 1-0 win at Bodmin cancelled out by a 1-0 reverse at Cullompton on Saturday.

“Yeah we basically had the highs and lows of football I guess,”Westgarth said. “From Helston and beating them 3-2 and then we go and beat Bodmin which was a really good couple of results, to then go and follow it up with disappointment at Cullompton but it goes like that sometimes.”

Town will head up to Dorset on Friday night – as opposed to doing the round trip in one day – in order to ensure the team is better prepared for the game.

Westgarth said: “We can get up there and have a good early night and such and then we can spend the Saturday relaxing and stretching the legs out rather than being on a bus for four hours.

“We thought we’d try it this way because as nice as it is to go away to these new places our primary objective is to win games of football.”

There will be fewer players boarding the bus on Friday night than Westgarth would have liked due to a mix of injuries and unavailabilities.

Midfielder Ryan Martt is unavailable and right-back David Blizzard is missing the next three games. Defender Ollie Moody is 50:50 to play while striker Matt Buchan is both injured and suspended.

Westgarth said: “It’s a bit of a test of the depth of the squad because November can really shape our season with four games, three of which are cup and the other one being Tavistock [in the league], so they’re a big test of the squad.”
