Launceston 0, Helston Athletic 4

PHIL Cattran scored a hat-trick as Helston roared to their first league win since August at Launceston's Pennygillam on Saturday.

Cattran scored twice to put the Blues two up at the break before sealing his treble midway through the second half, with Matt Bye adding the fourth late on.

The Helston hitman opened his account within five minutes when he received the ball from Lewis Tonkin and took a touch before arrowing a shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Cattran could have had another when his one-on-one effort with Launceston goalkeeper Josh Colwill rebounded back to him, but his second attempt struck the inside of the post from a narrow angle.

Bye, a recent acquisition from Bideford, also came close when his 30-yard free-kick thundered against the crossbar.

But it was 2-0 before the half was out when Scott Beattie teed up Cattran who took a touch before passing the ball into the bottom corner.

Launceston were handed a chance to get back into the game when Helston 'keeper Barrie Wyatt clattered into Jordan Hogan when attempting to punch the ball clear, but Charlie Hardcastle's spot kick cannoned off the crossbar.

Helston put the game beyond their hosts with 20 minutes to go when Tonkin's cross found Cattran eight yards out, who sealed his hat-trick with a bullet header past the helpless Colwill.

Phil Miller came off the bench to make his debut for the Blues and set up the fourth goal, laying off to Bye who took a touch before firing into the top corner in the final minutes.
