St Blazey 1, Porthleven 3

Porthleven held off a late challenge from St Blazey to climb to second place in the South West Peninsula League Division 1 West table on Saturday.

Matt Fox put the Fishermen in front early on before George Molcher doubled the lead on the half-hour mark.

Fox netted again with 13 minutes to go, but they had to withstand Ryan Oxley's reply and a late penalty shout before making sure of victory.

Port were ahead inside ten minutes when a Fox fired a fantastic volley into the net from outside the box after the initial corner had been cleared.

The visitors doubled their advantage in unusual style when St Blazey 'keeper Ben Hurst, kicking into the strong wind, saw his clearance intercepted by Molcher with the midfielder able to calmly side-foot into the unguarded net.

Port had seemingly made sure on victory on 77 minutes when Fox and Matt Drummond combined to allow the latter to score.

But St Blazey were on the board with seven minutes to go when Oxley hit a dipping shot from the edge of the box past Port 'keeper Steve Parker-Billinge.

The hosts were denied the chance to further educe the arrears from the spot when Oxley was clipped when attempting to round Parker-Billinge but the referee was unmoved.

Porthleven: S Parker-Billinge, J Lugg, F Pengelly, J Sims, S Kellow, H Dark, J Adlard, G Molcher, R Carey, M Drummond, M Fox. Subs: J Price, D Davey, D Tarrant.
