CUP football took centre stage in the Trelawny League at the weekend with Camborne SoM narrowly averting a Percy Stephens Cup upset when they defeated Lanner 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1.

Division four Falmouth United also went close to pulling off a shock result when they held division one side Newlyn Lions to a 3-3 draw before going out 12-11 on penalties. Jack Blakeston, Freddie Christophers and Tim Hurrell had their goals.

Goals from Matt McIlroy (2) and Liam Dent earned Penryn Athletic Reserves a 3-1 win over Perranporth Reserves and Perranwell Reserves edged into the next round with a 3-1 upset against Constantine after scoring through Matt Rose, Kian Rowland and James Wilsher.

Ruan Minor were 3-0 winners against Chacewater.

In the Dunn Cup Mawnan trounced Helston III 6-1.

In division one Wendron United IV closed the gap on Probus when they defeated them 4-1, Mawnan Reserves were 3-1 winners at Rosudgeon, but RNAS Culdrose Reserves suffered another heavy defeat when they went down 8-1 at St Keverne.

David Webb and Jay Harrington scored for Falmouth Town III in their 2-1 win against West Cornwall Reserves but Mullion Reserved slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Gwinear Churchtown.

Frogpool/Cusgarne Reserves were emphatic 5-1 winners at St Agnes III and Wendron United IV won a high-scoring game 5-4 against St Buryan Reserves.

Lizard Argyle Reserves were 2-0 winners at home to Constantine Reserves whilst Stithians Reserves suffered a heavy 7-2 defeat at home to Hayle III.

  • Mawnan will host Penryn Athletic in the third round of the Cornwall Junior Cup.

Helston Athletic will visit Marazion while Stithians face Veryan. Ties to be played on Saturday, November 24.
