Falmouth Town 2, St Dennis 1

Falmouth Town made a second-half comeback against St Dennis to advance to the next round of the Cornwall Senior Cup, writes Harry Tribe.

A goal on the stroke of half-time from Carlo Ricks gave St Dennis the lead as he flicked home a free-kick whipped into the box by Martin Sleeman.

Falmouth equalised 12 minutes into the second half when a deflected cross was flicked on by Ryan Martt leaving David Broglino to finish at the back-post.

Town got the winner five minutes from time when Broglino drifted into the box and volleyed past Ryan Holland in the St Dennis net.

Falmouth Packet:

Falmouth created a host of opportunities in the first half but were unable to make the breakthrough. The best chance fell to Jack Bowyer when his smart turn led to an effort on goal which was well saved by Holland in the St Dennis net.

St Dennis managed to break the deadlock against the run of play, a free-kick put into the box by Sleeman wasn’t dealt with by the Falmouth defence and Ricks was there to capitalise and put the visitors ahead.

In the second half Falmouth came out firing, a free-kick from Broglino looked destined to find the corner of the net but Holland was again there to save.

Falmouth Packet:

Town found the equaliser in the 57th minute when a deflected cross from Josh Richards was flicked on by Martt with Broglino gambling at the back post to nod into the net.

Falmouth continued to press and in the 85th minute St Dennis’ resistance broke with Luke Johnson crossing into the box for Broglino to volley home magnificently from 12 yards and send the home side into the next round.
