TWO gymnasts from Penryn Gymnastics Centre have returned with 12 medals from the British Gymnastics 2018 Disability Artistic British Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

Saffy Harrison, 11 from Helston and Isaac Branwood, 10 from Falmouth both train at Penryn Gymnastics Centre.

Saffy shone throughout the day and performed confident, well executed and graceful routines on all four apparatus. Her efforts paid off, taking gold medals on Bars and Beam and silver on Floor and Vault.

This impressive set of results meant Saffron took the title of All Around British Women’s Junior Open Champion, a clear five marks ahead of the competition.

Isaac showed an equally high class performance on all six pieces in the men’s competition earning bronze medals on Rings, Horizontal Bar and Vault plus silver on Floor, Pommel and Parallel Bars. Isaac took the silver medal All Around in the Men’s Junior Open.

Assistant Head Coach Charlotte Punter said: "This was our first time attending the British Disability Championships so we weren’t sure what to expect. To bring back 12 British medals is a fantastic achievement.

"Both gymnasts are extremely dedicated and put in hours of training each week. All their hard work has definitely paid off!"

Saffy, who has severe hearing loss, is a pupil at Nansloe Academy in Helston and has been attending gymnastics classes at Penryn since 2015.

She said: "I love gymnastics at Penryn and spend a lot of time there – it’s like my second family! Jill and Charlotte are really great at making sure I can understand and follow instructions and helping me with my balance."

Isaac’s mum Dawn Truss said: "I’m so proud of Isaac and all he has achieved at Penryn Gymnastics Centre. He has fantastic support from his coach, Alex."

Head Coach Jill Punter said: "This was an outstanding achievement for our gymnasts and our club. Saffy and Isaac have shown that with great coaching adapted to their needs there really is no limit on what they can achieve. Everyone at the club is incredibly proud of them."

Both Saffy and Isaac are waiting to hear whether they will be invited to take part in the Disability Masters competition in the Liverpool Echo Arena in March next year.
