Wendron United 3, Dobwalls 0

Wendron United manager Jack Greenwood felt that his side put in “their best performance to date” in their 3-0 win at home to Dobwalls in their South West Peninsula League Division 1 West match on Saturday.

The win is a continuation of Dron’s fine form which has seen them win six of their last seven league games and move up to eighth in the division, with games in hand over almost every side above them.

Finn Robinson opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he raced onto the end of Chris Mulroy’s defence-splitting pass and coolly slotted past the Dobwalls ‘keeper.

Captain Jamie Webb doubled the hosts’ lead ten minutes later when he headed Yeshe Briar’s corner home at the far post.

Jack Stocker almost made it three when his effort was cleared off the line, but did manage to get the all-important third with the last action of the first half after heading in from Mulroy’s cross from close range.

Stocker also hit the underside of the crossbar after the break as Dron eased to victory.

Greenwood said: "We'd started the game really well and it was probably our best performance to date and the good thing was it was consistent for the whole of the first half, it was a really dominant performance in terms of not just dominating the ball like we did against them last time but we also created chances."

The result was revenge for Greenwood’s side, who lost 1-0 to the east Cornwall club when they met at Underlane a month ago in the second round of the Walter C Parson League Cup.

He said: "I would have taken a loss in the cup for a win yesterday [Saturday] so I'm quite happy with that trade, absolutely."
