Falmouth 1, Yeovil and Sherborne 9

Falmouth’s first team suffered a hammering at home to Premier Division 2B leaders Yeovil and Sherborne on Saturday.

Having been promoted from South division last season Falmouth have had an incredible run to be in third position this term.

However, a clinical visiting side proved too strong for the home team with a fine display of short, sharp, accurate passing and top-class finishing.

Falmouth were always holding out for a glimmer of hope which came mid-way through the second half. An excellent run from Rachael Tatlow, down the right wing, who timed a perfect cross into the D for Clare Hudson to firmly push into the back of the net.

Falmouth gave their all, with player of the match Alice Nickels showing her skill and determination in defence.

The midfielders had a hard task fending off the skilful Yeovil side but a creditable fourth place with one match to go before the Christmas break is an excellent position to be in at the half way stage.

Falmouth II 5, Newquay II 0

Falmouth seconds put in a great team performance to gain this convincing win in their mid-table meeting with Newquay.

The home team went into attack from the start but were unable to convert their early chances. After Newquay tried to push forward, Falmouth regained their mid-field control and a good ball into the D was finished off by Louise Cross.

Falmouth soon doubled their lead when Rachel Medd’s strong shot was saved by the ‘keeper only for Holly Doran to pounce on the rebound.

Falmouth made it three before half time as Cross forced the ball over the line after the goalkeeper fell on the ball.

In the second half it was more of the same as Falmouth attacked in numbers to keep the Newquay defence and ‘keeper busy.

Yuki Cornish, playing in her first senior match, started the move for the fourth goal as she fed the ball through to Cross who made a quick pass to Doran who slotted the ball into goal.

Doran scored her hat-trick when she finished on the back post after good work from Cross.
