Porthleven 2, St Dennis 1

TORNADO Bello’s second-half penalty ensured Porthleven collected all three points against St Dennis on Saturday and moved to the top of the South West Peninsula League Division 1 West table.

Tom Annear scored his first goal of his return to the club to put the Fishermen in front with a superb long-range effort.

St Dennis responded well and came close to equalising but for a super stop from Port ‘keeper Richard Kellow to deny the visitors from six yards.

But the away side were on terms when Carl Rickard levelled early in the second half after finishing off a nice team move.

But their joy was short lived as the hosts were awarded a penalty a few minutes later, with Bello stepping up to settle matters from the spot.

St Dennis’ hopes of mounting a second comeback took a huge hit when a straight red was shown, with the hosts holding on to record their 11th win from 13 league games this season.

The win means Port are the new front-runners in Division 1 West after Liskeard Athletic were held at home to Plymouth Marjon.
